When did you last update your CV?

If you’re relying on platforms like LinkedIn when looking for a new job, it’s easy to overlook your CV. However, many candidates underestimate just how important it is to keep this document up to date, often leaving it unchanged for years and missing out on potential opportunities as a result.

Your CV should be viewed as a working document that grows with your career. Even if you’re not actively job hunting, regularly updating it ensures your experience and achievements are accurately captured. Over time, it’s easy to forget key accomplishments - whether that’s improving your language skills, achieving measurable results or taking on additional responsibilities - unless they are recorded as they happen.

Keeping your CV current also means you’re ready to act when opportunities arise.  Whether you’re approached by a recruiter, considered for an internal move, or you have already registered with a jobboard, an up-to-date CV allows you to respond quickly and confidently without last-minute updates.

As your career progresses, your skill set naturally develops too. This might include new qualifications, training, or improvements in soft skills such as communication and teamwork. For multilingual professionals, language proficiency can also evolve significantly with regular use, making it even more important to reflect your current level accurately.

On platforms like UK Language Jobs, where employers actively search for candidates, your CV plays a key role in whether you are shortlisted.  Many clients will consider a CV that's 3 month's out-of-date as no longer active.

So, if you are looking for work and it's just dawned on you that you haven't logged into your preferred jobboard for some time, take a moment to refresh and get those skills updated!
